BARRAMUNDI

This species has been recorded from the Persian Gulf to China and south through Asia to Australia. It lives in a range of conditions in coastal waters, creeks, rivers and estuaries in clear to turbid waters. Barramundi is a diadromous fish, inhabiting rivers before returning to the estuaries to spawn. Larvae and young juveniles live in brackish temporary swamps associated with estuaries, and older juveniles inhabit the upper reaches of rivers. Adult Barramundi are blue to green-grey dorsally, silvery on the sides, and white below. Juveniles are mottled brown with a distinct white stripe from the dorsal fin to the snout. Barramundi from Vietnam is a wild coastal sea product, and not cultivated in ponds.



Barramundi has a delicate taste, mild flavor along with a firm and flaky texture, and can be fried, steamed, poached, barbecued and oven baked.
